The dam is located 15-minute drive away south of Aswan. It is an impressive sight with views over Lake Nasser in south and over the old Aswan Dam in north. The dam is heavily guarded as if it burst it would wash most of Egypt into the Mediterranean.
The construction of the high Dam started in 1960, it’s an impressive engineering sight, which is over 360 feet tall and 12,500 feet across, and the dam was completed in 1971. The dam protected Egypt and various monuments and archeological sites from the threats of the rising water also the dam provides significant benefits to the Egyptians.
