Kom Ombo Temple has a unique design as it’s dedicated to 2 gods, comes with 2 parallel axial passages passing through its columned halls, terminating in two sanctuaries, The southern axis is for Sobek which on the right, and the northern is for Harwer which is on the left.

Sobek


was a god of fertility associated with water, the inundation, and vegetation. Harwer is the god of kingship Horus and the son of Osiris and Isis.

The temple’s name came from Arabic kum ‘mound’, this term was found in the names of many archaeological sites, and ‘Ombo’, it derives from ancient Egyptian Nubt which means ‘the golden city.’

The temple is dedicated to two deities ( the crocodile god Sobek, and the falcon god Harwer, the temple was built during the Graeco-Roman Period (332 BC–395 AD).

The Temple

has beautiful column capitals, Furthermore it also features breathtaking scenes decorating its walls, it has calendars list festivals and many cultic activity with their dates and the accompanying rituals.
