Salah El Din citadel

is one of the greatest medieval attractions which houses the illustrious Khedive Muhammad Ali mosque, numerous museums and sites as the National Police Museum and the Royal Carriage Museum,

it’s also called Cairo Citadel or Saladin Citadel.

The citadel

was built on a the hills of Mokattam and during the Muhammad Ali period in the 19th century it was the seat of power for later caliphs, ministers and sultans. it has an impressive panoramic view of the City.

The main areas of the citadel

1)The main fortress and the eastern walls which were built in 1176 by the great Salahedin El-Ayyoubi

2)The southern enclosure with 19th-century walls and the lower enclosure which extends along the western wall of the hill and its main gate located in front of the Sultan Hassan mosque.
